Frank Michael's "Mes Hommages" is a tribute album that tries so hard to pay homage to the greats, but ultimately falls flat on its face. The Belgian crooner has a voice as smooth as chocolate, but unfortunately, that's not enough to save this cringeworthy attempt at musical reverence. From a cheesy cover of Edith Piaf's "La Vie en Rose" to a painfully awkward rendition of Jacques Brel's "Ne me quitte pas," Michael's homage feels more like a karaoke night gone wrong than a heartfelt tribute to music legends. The production is lacklustre, the arrangements uninspired, and the overall feeling is one of missed opportunity. Despite the best efforts of Michael's vocal prowess, "Mes Hommages" comes across as forced and inauthentic. It's as if the album is desperately trying to convince you of its sincerity, but it all feels as genuine as a plastic rose. In the end, "Mes Hommages" is a misstep in a career that has seen its fair share of highs and lows. Frank Michael may have the pedigree and the pipes, but this album proves that sometimes, even the best intentions can't save a misguided tribute. Stick to the classics, Frank – leave the homages to the pros.
