YOVA's latest album "Nine Lives" is a whimsical journey through a cat's many lives, or at least that's what I gathered from the album cover featuring a tabby cat with a monocle. The band's blend of indie pop and electronica creates a sound that is at once playful and sophisticated, much like a cat batting around a toy mouse before settling down for a nap in a sunbeam. Lead singer Jane Smith's vocals are like a siren's call, luring listeners in with their ethereal quality. The production on tracks like "Meow Mix" and "Purr-fect Harmony" is top-notch, with layers of synths and percussion creating a rich sonic tapestry that is a pleasure to unravel. However, at times it feels like YOVA may be stretching the concept of their feline theme a bit too far. The track "Whisker Whirl" features what can only be described as a purring solo, which, while innovative, may leave some listeners scratching their heads (or their ears). Overall, "Nine Lives" is a purr-fectly enjoyable listen for anyone who enjoys a bit of whimsy with their music. YOVA may not be reinventing the wheel with this album, but they certainly are taking listeners on a unique and entertaining musical journey. Grab your catnip and give it a spin, you won't be disappointed.
